A generation, in its familial sense, refers to the average time between a mother’â„¢s first child and her daughter’â„¢s first child, or equivalent to the average age of first-time mothers. In the United States a familial generation lasts on average for about 25.2 years in 2007, based on data from the US Census Bureau.
