It is important to know that in a Walmart there are 140,000 SKUs, which have to be carefully sorted, replaced on shelves, reordered and delivered.  The main idea is that people tend to radically underestimate the costs imposed by complexity. Not too many people know that in the past Walmart tried to reduce and rationalize at the same time the number of SKUs, but this was not a success.  Believe it or not, they were forced to backtrack and restore over 8,000 items to their stores.
