How many Scarlet fever victims were there?

Almost 3000 in 2008 in England and Wales

Not too many people know that Scarlet fever is due to a throat infection caused by a bacterium (germ) called streptococcus.  It is important to know that Scarlet fever has risen to its highest level for the last ten years.  In 2008, for example, there were 3000 cases in England and Wales.  Needless to say, the scarlet fever rash occurs when the streptococcal bacteria release toxins that make the skin go red.  The main idea is that the toxins get into the blood from the infected throat.
