How many rodent species are there?

It is interesting to know that rodents represent the largest order of mammals.  Can you imagine that there are about 2,277 species of rodents?  Moreover, more than 40% of mammalian species belong to the rodent species.  Rodents are small size and have a short breeding cycle.  They eat a wide variety of foods.  Where do rodents live?  You can find them all over the world, on all continents other than Antarctica.  Here are some examples of common rodents:  mice, rats, squirrels, porcupines, beavers, guinea pigs, and hamsters.
