How many rod cells are there?

125 million

Rod cells or simply rods are photoreceptor cells in the retina of the eye.  It is interesting to know that there are approximately 125 million rod cells in the human retina.  The most interesting part is that rod cells are almost entirely responsible for night vision.  Specialists say that rods are a little longer and leaner than cones but have the same structural basis.  It is also important to know that rods are concentrated at the outer edges of the retina.  Needless to say, rod cells are used in peripheral vision.
