The United States can do a lot better in registering our citizens to vote. Voter registration should be encouraged in our high schools and universities. Voter participation is imperative in maintaining a healthy democratic republic.

California has 2,709,090 registered voters per elector in the electoral college. Wyoming has 90,000 registered voters per elector. The Constitution was a compromise because it allowed less populous states to have a minimum of 3 electors (2 senators and at least 1 member of the House of Representatives). To make the ratios the same for the 2 states, California would need 1,655 electors to the electoral college. Trump is correct when he said that the election is rigged – it is rigged in favor of less-populated rural states which tend to vote Republican – all due to the Constitution. This is another reason why our governing document needs to be updated.
