How many maquiladora plants are there?

There has been a significant decrease in the number of maquiladora plants.  Anyway, there are still 3,000 maquiladoras along the 2,000 mile-long United States–Mexico border.  It is interesting to know the fact that these 3000 maquiladora plants provide employment for approximately one million workers.  Needless to say, they import more than $51 billion in supplies into Mexico.  This is definitely something.  The main idea is that maquiladoras in Mexico have been on the decline since 2000.  It is important to know the fact that maquiladoras account for 45 percent of Mexico’s exports.
