The 2009 Statistical Report, published on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints website, mentions the existence of 2,865 stakes throughout the world. Since 2006, 120 new LDS stakes have been established. A stake is an aggregation of parishes (known as “wards”) supervised by a stake president, who holds office for a 9-year period.

I was reading in a book called “Prophecy” by Duane Crowther and I came across a quote by Mosiah Lyman Hancock which stated: “could not tell a saint from a black-leg” What is a black-leg?
