How many ions are there in NaCl?


The chemical compound NaCl ‘“ sodium chloride or common salt ‘“ is composed by two ions. The first one, Sodium (Na+), is a simple cation: an ion with a positive charge due to 1 more proton than total amount of electrons. The second, Chloride (Cl-), is a simple anion: an ion with a negative charge due to 1 more electron than the total amount of protons.
