How many FTEs are there in the United States?
At least 61.7 million.
Although no full count is available, it can be estimated that there are at least 61.7 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees in the United States in 2008. This is based on data from the US Census Bureau that indicate 16.7 million state and local government FTEs in 2008, plus 4.5 million FTEs in American hospitals nationwide in 2007 according to the American Hospital Association.
