How many endangered species are there?

Not too many people know the fact that there are 44,838 species assessed by specialists.  Unfortunately, 16,928 of them are listed as threatened with extinction.  This is definitely something.  There are 5614 endangered species in Saharan Africa, 5033 in South America, 1261 in North America, 268 in North Asia, 2093 in Oceania, 1383 in East Asia, 4784 in East Asia, 2075 in Europe, etc.  These statistics are not exact.  Keep in mind that million of species still need to be assessed to know their status.
