How many eggs are there in the ovaries?
1 to 2 million in infant human females.
A baby girl is born with one to two million eggs in her ovaries. As a girl ages, until she reaches menopause, most of the eggs (99%) are destroyed in a process called ovarian follicle atresia, while only 1% enter ovulation. At the onset of menstruation, or puberty, only around 400,000 eggs remain, and the depletion of eggs is marked by menopause.
