Almost all mammals, including humans, have 7 cervical vertebrae. These are the bones of the spine found right below the skull, also known as neck bones. They serve to support the head and keep it upright. Mammals with different neck lengths, from short-necked elephants to long-necked giraffes, have 7 cervical vertebrae.
