16 in 100000 women per year discover they have cervical cancer

When it comes to cervical cancer, statistics do not look good at all.  Keep in mind that worldwide, cervical cancer is second most common and the fifth deadliest cancer in women.  Unfortunately, it affects about 16 per 100,000 women per year.  Moreover, it kills about 9 per 100,000 per year.  It is interesting to know that approximately 80% of cervical cancers occur in developing countries.  For example, in 2008, it was estimated that there were 473,000 cases of cervical cancer.  Needless to say, in 2010 there were 225,000 deaths.
