In theory all 342 schools that compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision can make it to the Bowl Championship Series (BCS); however only the top 10 are selected for each season to compete. Since the first BCS season in 1998, Ohio State University holds the record of having played the most in the BCS with 8 appearances.
