How many bald eagles are there in North America?

At least 9,789 nesting pairs of bald eagles

It is interesting to know the fact that that there are at least 9,789 nesting pairs of bald eagles in the US.  Not too many people know that by 1963, with only 487 nesting pairs of bald eagles remaining, the specie was in danger of extinction.  Some factors contributed to the near demise of these birds: loss of habitat, shooting, and DDT poisoning.  Bald eagles have a white head and white tail feathers.  Moreover, they are powerful.  Believe it or not, these birds may weigh 14 pounds and have a wingspan of 8 feet.
