How many NGOs are there in India?
1.2 million.
The report “Invisible, Yet Widespread: The Non-Profit Sector in India”, published in 2002 by PRIA and Johns Hopkins University, presents an estimate of 1.2 million NGOs in India. Among these non-governmental organizations, 50% are not registered, and most of them are small and rural. NGOs in India are thought to engage about 20 million people.
