How many MRI machines are there in Canada?
The latest edition of Medical Imaging in Canada, issued by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), reports that, by January 2007, there were 222 MRI scanners in service in Canada. The first MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanners were installed in Canada between 1982 and 1983, only for research purposes. MRI utilization for clinical purposes began in 1985, at St. Joseph’â„¢s Hospital.
