How many adults around the world suffer from autism?
Around 1.5 million people (in the US alone).
Autism results due to a disorder of neural development and it hampers the social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication of the individual. As per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention report, currently 20 -70 children, that is 1 in 88 children are afflicted by autism. An exact count of the total number of adults living with autism today currently does not exist, but approximately 1.5 million people in the US have an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). There has been a 5 fold increase in the number of autistic children but the reasons for this increase continue to remain unclear.
